Yayasan Nandeta Shakti Nusantara is a community-based foundation born from a deep love for Tangkahan: its forests, rivers, wildlife, and the people who live alongside them. Rooted in the Karonese word “Nandeta,” meaning “our mother,” we believe that nature and the women who care for it are the true guardians of life.

Based in Tangkahan, a forest-edge community bordering the Leuser ecosystem, we work to protect and restore landscapes that are home to some of the world’s most endangered species, including Sumatran elephants, orangutans, tigers, and rhinoceroses. Through land protection, reforestation, community-led waste management, and women-centered livelihood programs, Nandeta seeks to rebuild harmony between people and nature.

Our work is guided by local forest rangers, community leaders, and nature lovers who have long protected this land. We believe lasting conservation must be rooted in the community: honoring local knowledge, restoring balance to the land, and safeguarding nature as a shared inheritance.

Nandeta is a space for collective care and action. Together, we plant, protect, and nurture life so that Tangkahan may continue to thrive for generations to come.
